The ur-Quattro Coupe has the ECU mounted on the side of the glove box assembly. The glove box assembly will need to be removed and then the ECU can be unbolted from the glove box piece. The ECU wiring connector uses a metal spring tab to hold the wiring harness connector to the ECU connector. The vacuum/pressure hose should be carefully removed after loosening the hose clamp and by CAREFULLY prying off the hose. Be very careful as the ur-Q ECU uses a plastic nipple on the internal pressure sensor and this can break off when removing the vacuum/pressure hose if you are not careful.

1985-1990 5000/200, Turbo and Quattro, MAC10, MAC11 and MAC14 ECU's

The ECU is located underneath the right side kick panel on the passenger side just below the dash board. One Phillips screw at the bottom of this kick panel cover needs to be removed so that the kick panel can be pulled slightly forward and then out. Here is a photo of the MAC14 ECU as installed in the 1989-90 200TQ.

The ECU is secured to the body with another Phillips screw near the upper front edge of the ECU. It may help to pull the plastic bag around the connector up a little to see towards the front edge of the ECU.

Remove this screw and washer which will allow the ECU to be pulled out of the lower retaining bracket and to gain access to vacuum/pressure hose attached to the ECU port. Loosen the hose clamp screw and then carefully use a flat blade screw driver to pry up the hose off of the port on the ECU.

After removing the hose, the main ECU wiring harness connector can be removed. Push the harness connector locking release tab in while lifting up the one edge of the harness connector. The wiring harness connector will then swing upward. Take note that there is a large hook on the other end of the wiring connector that will only come out of the ECU connector if the wiring connector end with the release tang is rotated up past a 45 degree angle. The ECU connector piece is a little fragile so don't force the wiring harness connector too much or you can break the connector on the ECU.
